A DIVERSE ORGANISATION
Home to 10,000 students, researchers and artists every year, over 140 nationalities, 40 houses and a host of services, the Cité Internationale offers a unique setting backed by a remarkable organisation.
The Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris is unique among French universities and institutions. It is run by a private body, the Fondation Nationale, and is listed as a public-interest organisation. It manages on-site services and 18 residences. The other 22 houses each represent a country or Grande Ecole and have their own legal status.

PATRONAGE AT THE CITÉ INTERNATIONALE
The Cité Internationale has always drawn on the generous support of key private donors such as Emile Deutsch de la Meurthe and John Rockefeller Jr.
The Cité Internationale has now reached a turning point and is on the verge of launching a wide-ranging development campaign to renovate and enhance its architectural heritage, pursue intellectual and cultural projects and offer new scholarships. Why not support to this new drive?
1.Did you know?
2.I would like accommodation in the Cité Internationale: how do I apply and what documents must I provide?
You must fill in the accommodation application form and send it to us. At this stage you do not need any supporting documents. But do check that you have filled in each field clearly and in full. There are several blank fields in which you can add any further information you consider relevant to your application.
3.What documents must I provide if my application is accepted?
If you are accepted into the Cité Internationale, your host house will get in touch with you and provide you with a list of the supporting documents required. As a general rule, two types of document are requested. Evidence of university registration (pre-registration, proof of attendance, student card, confirmation from a director of research, etc.) and proof of your resources (confirmation of grant, family support, bank loan, etc.). You must also provide an ID card or passport and pay a deposit to confirm your reservation.
4.I would like accommodation at the Cité Internationale for myself and my partner. How do I apply?
The accommodation provided at the Cité Internationale is not suitable for families. But it is possible to live on the site with your partner. Unlike partners of students over the age of 30, the partners of students under 30 must meet the eligibility criteria for accommodation in the Cité Internationale. The student and his/her partner must both fill in the accommodation application form, each stating in the relevant field the identity of the person with whom they wish to share accommodation. This rule does not apply to researchers and artists.
5.Can I stay at the Cité Internationale for my entire degree course?
Accommodation is initially provided for one academic year and readmission is not automatic. The length of stay at the Cité Internationale is also limited. For students under the age of 30 it may not exceed 3 years. Readmission is also decided by a committee. For students over the age of 30, residence is permitted for exactly12 months, renewable once.
6.What budget do I need to rent a room in the Cité Internationale?
The monthly rent that you will pay depends on three criteria: your status (student aged under or over 30); the length of your stay (short, medium, long or annual); the type of accommodation as well as the facilities provided by your host house. There is also an administration charge (€55 for students and €65 for artists) and a deposit corresponding to one month’s rent. The cost of a room varies considerably, depending on its level of comfort. If you are in a national house or institutional house, it can be up to €450 to €500 per month for a room with all mod cons. See the price list of the houses managed by the National Foundation, Cité Internationale.
7.The accommodation application form mentions different types of accommodation. How do I choose?
Most rooms at the Cité Internationale are “standard” (with a single or double bed and a sink, with showers, toilets and kitchen on the same floor), luxury (with a single or double bed, sink, shower and toilet, with a kitchen on the same floor) and studio apartments (with a single or double bed, sink, shower, toilets and kitchenette). Studio apartments are reserved for researchers alone or with their families, as are the two-bedroom apartments on the site.
8.What facilities do the houses provide?
Most of the houses have a laundry with drying facilities, study rooms, recreation rooms and computer rooms. The communal kitchens have hotplates, a microwave oven and a small oven (kitchen and tableware is not supplied). The residences have a telephone (charges and methods of payment for phone calls vary according to each house).
9.I am coming to Paris for a training course: can I stay at the Cité Internationale and, if so, how do I apply?
You may be eligible for accommodation in the Cité Internationale if you come from an Academy other than that of Paris, Créteil or Versailles. You can apply by filling in the accommodation application form. Select the heading “other” in the field “Higher Education Establishment” on the form, and give the reason why you are coming to Paris in the space provided. If your application is accepted, you must provide evidence of your training course in Paris.
10.Can I stay at the Cité Internationale for a short period?
This is possible if you can show by any document that your study period is shorter than three months. If your college or your nationality is represented by a house at the Cité internationale, apply to this house. The minimum stay is usually three nights and the houses charge a special rate for short stays.
